- How do I know my roof needs replacing?

A soft spot underfoot or a stain spreading across a ceiling means water is already getting in. We check all of that on a free roof walk and tell you plainly whether repair or replacement makes sense.
- Should I choose asphalt shingles or metal roofing?
- Asphalt shingles cost less up front and suit most Alberni Valley homes, while metal roofing sheds heavy rain fast and holds up well over a long service life. A steep roof or a homeowner planning to stay long-term often does better with metal. We'll go over both options for your roof during the quote.
- How long does a roof replacement take?
- How long it takes comes down to the size of the roof, the pitch, and the weather while we're on it. Once we've walked your roof we give you a written schedule before work starts, so you know which days we'll be on site and when we'll be done.
- Do I need a permit to re-roof my house in Port Alberni?
- The City of Port Alberni's public permit guidance doesn't mention roofing either way, so we can't tell you from that alone whether your job needs a permit — confirm with the City's Building Inspector before you start. In the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, covering Sproat Lake, Beaver Creek and Cherry Creek, roofing repairs and replacements are exempt from a regional district building permit as long as no structural changes are made.
- Do you clean moss off roofs?
- Yes, roof cleaning and moss removal is one of our regular jobs, especially on shaded, north-facing slopes around Port Alberni where moss holds moisture against the shingles. We clear it off and check the flashing and gutters while we're up there.
- Do you install and repair gutters?
- Yes. We install, repair, and clean gutters as part of a roofing job or on their own, since a clogged or sagging gutter sends water straight down the fascia and siding. We check gutters as part of every roof inspection.
- Can you handle a flat or low-slope roof?
- Yes. Flat and low-slope roofing needs different materials and detailing than a sloped shingle roof, mainly around drainage and seams. We handle flat and low-slope sections on both homes and small commercial buildings across the Alberni Valley.
- What areas do you serve?

- Should I repair my roof or replace the whole thing?
- A single leak or a small area of damaged shingles is usually a repair. Once shingles are curling across the whole roof, or the roof is well past its expected life, a full replacement is the better value. We tell you plainly which one applies to your roof during the quote.
- What does a free quote involve?
- We come out, walk the roof, and check the attic, flashing and gutters where we can access them. You get a written price for the job before we book anything.
- What happens to my old shingles after a tear-off?
- We haul the old roofing material off site and take it to the Alberni Valley Sort'nGo Centre, which charges by weight for construction and demolition waste. Your written quote covers that disposal cost as part of the job.
